My interest in mystical things started from being inspired by nature from walks in the woods from a young child. I felt then and still do, that the woods are such magical places to be in, with the twisted shaped trees, plants, butterflies and wildlife, it's a place of fantasy and beauty.
My wish through my work, is to help inspire others to connect with nature and the earth and to connect to the wonders and beauty that surrounds us in the world.
I enjoy taking photos and making sketches of things I come across while out walking in nature and include these in my work.
I became interested in art during my senior school years. I spent most of my time in the art room painting or in the sewing room, working on collages and I was extremely excited when I recieved a prize at school for my artwork.
In 1994 I studied Art & Design at the Oxford Polytechnic in Oxford, through the Open College of Arts. I then went on to study Sculpture and Textiles at Amersham & Wycombe College in Buckinghamshire.
Over the years, I have exhibited my artwork as well as drawn animal portraits in pastels. In 2014 I started painting mystical artwork in acrylic on canvas. Since then I’ve been selling prints of my original artwork at shows and events as well as online.
It was during lockdown that I became interested in needle felting. This was something I had wanted to do for a long time. Once I started needle felting, I fell in love with it and wondered why I hadnt taken it up beforehand. It seemed quite a natural thing for me to do and it wasn't long before I started creating my own designs for my needle felts and found myself working on the mystical theme.
Then as time went on and being an artist, it didnt take me long to fall in love with fibre art and start making pictures in wool. A short time after that, I started making wet felted items, and created fibre art (wool paintings) of nature, fairies, unicorns, dragons and more on them.
Needle felting, is where I can use my sculpture and textile background and combine my talents and interests together in one.
